But how many of us have heard of BED Talks?<\/p>\n<p>An upcoming two-night event in Victoria on \u201cBeing. Empowering. Discovering\u201d is promising to \u201cengage community\u201d through a series of talks by Mayor Dean Fortin, Alan Ogden, Shine Kelly, and Matthew Ashdown, among others.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3542\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3542\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Deanyearend.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3542\" title=\"Deanyearend\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Deanyearend-300x193.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"193\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Deanyearend-300x193.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Deanyearend-180x116.jpg 180w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Deanyearend.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3542\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mayor Dean Fortin will be one of many speakers during the upcoming BED Talks (photo provided).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Organized by Camosun visual arts alumni Ami Muranetz, the BED Talks are a fundraiser for Cops for Cancer and run on the theme of engaging ourselves and our community within an 18-minute time slot for each speaker.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201c<\/strong>Every speaker is so phenomenal in their respective fields that it\u2019s hard not to be excited about the knowledge each one of them brings to the event,\u201d says Muranetz, also a contestant in the Miss BC 2012 competition.<\/p>\n<p>According to Muranetz, the BED name was chosen due to official TED events having a clause that they can&#8217;t be fundraisers, and she hopes the BED name will imply a slightly &#8220;sexier&#8221; batch of presentations.<\/p>\n<p>Although there are many speakers included in the two-day event, taking place at the Victoria Event Centre (1415 Broad St.) June 15 and Temple (525 Fort St.) June 16, Muranetz has trouble singling out which ones she\u2019s most looking forward to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwo empowering femmes I\u2019m honored to include in our speaker lineup are MLA Lana Popham and Bellyfit\u2019s Alice Bracegirdle.
