In <em>The Foreigner<\/em>, the main character pretends just that\u2026 and gets away with it.<\/p>\n<p>Director Toshik Bukowiecki says Larry Shue\u2019s play is a perfect way to conclude the 2011\/2012 Langham Court Theatre season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a wonderful play and a lovely comedy. This is a feel-good piece and it\u2019s a great way to wrap up our 83<sup>rd<\/sup> season,\u201d says Bukowiecki.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Foreigner<\/em> is about a pathologically shy gentleman, Charlie, who is coerced into going to a fishing lodge for a weekend. Unfortunately for him, his companion, Froggy, must leave unexpectedly. In an attempt to comfort his shy friend, Froggy tells the lodge staff that Charlie is a foreigner and cannot speak or understand English. This results in Charlie becoming a confidant, overhearing scheming plots, and even an attempt at \u201clearning\u201d English.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3553\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3553\" style=\"width: 214px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/DSC0285.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3553\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/DSC0285-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/DSC0285-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/DSC0285-300x420.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/DSC0285-180x252.jpg 180w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/DSC0285.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3553\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Yup, The Foreigner looks zany, all right (photo provided).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThis is the kind of play that is a very satisfying evening of entertainment,\u201d says Bukowiecki. \u201cIt has lots of laughs, and tender and feel-good moments in it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of the plots involves the Ku Klux Klan, but\u2014amazingly\u2014that doesn\u2019t keep the play from being family friendly. Bukowiecki says there\u2019s no need to alter the script, because it\u2019s so well written.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very straight-forward, what the intention of the play is,\u201d says Bukowiecki. \u201cIn fact, in the back of the script, Shue makes some very clear recommendations on what needs to be done to make the play work the way he intended it; frankly, I don\u2019t think there\u2019s any need to tamper with it, because it works very well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Everybody loves a story where the nice guys win and the corrupt fail. <em>The Foreigner<\/em> is just that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe good guys all have wonderful journeys where they come out as more fulfilled human beings, and the bad guys get beaten,\u201d says Bukowiecki. \u201cWho doesn\u2019t like a happy ending?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Foreigner<br \/>\n<\/em>June 14 &#8211; June 30 (except on Sundays and Mondays)<br \/>\nLangham Court Theatre<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.langhamtheatre.ca\" target=\"_blank\">langhamtheatre.ca<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s a moment in most peoples\u2019 lives when they wish they didn\u2019t speak (or understand) the English language.
