Luckily, Steve Poltz, who has been plying his singer-songwriter trade for a while, makes up for it on this, his thirteenth disc. Here, it\u2019s all classic rock stomps, like opener \u201cSpirit Hands,\u201d which reminds you of nothing more than just how damn good <em>Led Zeppelin III<\/em> really was. \u201cCroatia\u201d melds indie-beard credibility with a mainstream CanRock swagger; much of the album holds tight and steady right there, like a Black Crowes with a slight above-the-49<sup>th<\/sup> quirkiness. But simpler is better: check out \u201cSlovania Breeze\u201d or \u201cCheck Your Head\u201d, both of which sound like lost Stones jams from their heyday. I love the ragged production, the rough and tumble jam-room feel, the classic rock vibe. I\u2019m not sure about wildly clich\u00e9 lines like \u201cI was lost but now I\u2019m found again,\u201d but, you know, you can\u2019t win \u2019em all.
