Slutty costumes are a rite of passage into womanhood. Wearing a provocative costume is something all women do at some point in their lives. And why not?<\/p>\n

The other 364 days of our lives we\u2019re forced to conform and wear what\u2019s generally acceptable in society. Halloween is supposed to be an escape from that. It\u2019s the one day a year that we get to be whoever we want to be; to wear something we wouldn\u2019t normally wear. Yet it still holds true that if a woman wears something sexy and revealing she\u2019s instantly labelled as a bimbo.<\/p>\n

In my years as a trick-or-treater and, more recently, party-goer, I\u2019ve had my fair share of costumes. I\u2019ve been everything from a dead bride to an ice queen; a couch potato (use your imagination) to a pimp. And pretty much everything in between.<\/p>\n

There have been years where I\u2019ve worn costumes that show more skin, and years where I\u2019ve worn a mustache. So, for all the women out there who want to dress as a slutty nurse or Playboy bunny, I say more power to you!<\/p>\n

Men are free to dress as axe-wielding psychopaths, but when a woman decides to show her love for cheerleading while showing off her gorgeous gams she gets nothing but smack talk from other women. And that\u2019s where it truly gets bad: despite all of our pro-feminist, pro-choice, be-who-you-are talk, on All Hallow\u2019s Eve we suddenly decide to demean the women who do exactly that. Halloween is supposed to be about expressing yourself, and if that means pulling out the fishnets and garters, then so be it.<\/p>\n

Of course, there are the arguments that sexy costumes are unoriginal and degrading. But when half the room is full of zombies or whatever the fad of the year happens to be, does it really matter? Every off-the-rack Halloween costume is overdone; why not make it a bit more interesting by showing off your bodacious bod? And as for slutty costumes being degrading, that simply isn\u2019t true if a self-respecting woman chooses to wear it.<\/p>\n

Feminists fought for women\u2019s rights: the right to have hairy legs and the right to wear whatever you like. A woman should be able to whip out a slutty pumpkin suit on Halloween.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
