On listverse.com, writer Caty Medrano compiled her idea of \u201ctop 10 strong human fears.\u201d What I like about her list is that it deals in the drives behind fears:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Losing your freedom<\/li>\n<li>The unknown<\/li>\n<li>Pain<\/li>\n<li>Disappointment<\/li>\n<li>Misery<\/li>\n<li>Loneliness<\/li>\n<li>Ridicule<\/li>\n<li>Rejection<\/li>\n<li>Death<\/li>\n<li>Failure<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>It\u2019s not hard to see why public speaking ranks high as a fear. One tool I use to override the jitters is thinking of something funny as I look out at the audience.\u00a0My body relaxes, my face smiles, my memory opens up, and my body language unconsciously reassures the audience.\u00a0My favorite funny thing to think of is from the show,\u00a0<i>The Golden Girls<\/i>, where the girls help each other conquer their phobias.
