The independent singer-songwriter has toured internationally and recently appeared in a cameo role in last summer\u2019s blockbuster <i>Man of Steel<\/i>. Yet, Crowe\u2019s support for Victoria\u2019s community soldiers on, as evidenced by the organizations this concert will be benefiting.<\/dt>\n<dt>\u00a0<\/dt>\n<dt>\u201cWhen I do events in different towns, sometimes I partner up with different groups,\u201d says Crowe. \u201cThose groups in Victoria are Artemis Place and HepCBC [the Hepatitis C Education and Prevention Society]. We\u2019ve been doing shows together for a long time. Funds are tight, but they have hope.<\/p>\n<\/dt>\n<dt>\u201cThere are so many clinical trials out there and almost every one of them are having wonderful results,\u201d says Reitz, \u201cI\u2019m 65 and I have pretty advanced cirrhosis of the liver because of the hep c. The virus is now gone, but I\u2019m left with cirrhosis. So, I\u2019ll be at risk for liver cancer for the next eight years. That\u2019s why it\u2019s really important for people to get tested and treated as soon as possible. We\u2019re trying hard to get the message out.\u201d<\/dt>\n<dt>\u00a0<\/dt>\n<dt>Artemis Place Society is also excited to join Crowe again this year. The society has supported teen girls and young mothers since 1971. Lisa Ellis, Artemis Place executive director, has firsthand knowledge of how effective this model can be; she utilized Artemis Place&#8217;s services in the &#8217;80s herself.<\/dt>\n<dt>\u00a0<\/dt>\n<dt>\u201cAllison just keeps coming back every year,\u201d says Ellis. \u201cThe society is named after Artemis, the goddess who protects young women and young mothers. I always say that Allison is our Artemis; she\u2019s watching over us.\u201d<\/dt>\n<dt>\u00a0<\/dt>\n<dt>But Crowe is more than a charity supporter and musician; she is a successful entrepreneur. A wonderful role model for any Camosun College student, she&#8217;s learned all about balancing business with music.<\/dt>\n<dt>\u00a0<\/dt>\n<dt>\u201cSometimes it\u2019s more one than the other,\u201d says Crowe, \u201cdepending on what\u2019s happening.
