Rather, it is to do with &#8220;chronic underfunding.&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With <a href=\"http:\/\/islandsexualhealth.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Island Sexual Health<\/a> (ISH) <a href=\"http:\/\/nexusnewspaper.com\/2014\/03\/28\/news-briefs-april-2-2014-issue-ride-on-program-volunteer-with-creatively-united-for-the-planet-island-sexual-health-in-trouble-arts-scholarships-available\/\" target=\"_blank\">struggling to cover their costs this year<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/camosunstudent.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Camosun College Student Society<\/a> (CCSS) announced today that they will donate $1 per member (Camosun student) to ISH. The CCSS has confirmed to\u00a0<em>Nexus<\/em> that the total amount is $9300 and they hope to have the money to ISH late next week.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/ccss-logo1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-8856 alignleft\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/ccss-logo1.jpg\" width=\"192\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/ccss-logo1.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/ccss-logo1-292x300.jpg 292w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/ccss-logo1-300x307.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/ccss-logo1-180x184.jpg 180w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 192px) 100vw, 192px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMinister of Health Terry Lake has failed students by cutting funding to Island Sexual Health,\u201d CCSS external executive Simka Marshall said in a statement. \u201cComprehensive and accessible sexual health services must be maintained in the Capital Region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The CCSS, who represent over 9,000 students at Camosun College, are challenging other organizations, including the University of Victoria Students\u2019 Society, to match\u2014or beat\u2014its pledge of $1 per member.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Island Sexual Health provides sexual and reproductive health care that is valued by students and the community,\u201d\u00a0said Marshall in the statement. \u201cBy cutting sexual health services, Minister Lake is condemning young people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over 26,000 people used the services of ISH in 2013.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NOTE: Island Sexual Health contacted\u00a0Nexus to clarify that their current financial situation is not to do with funding being cut, as is stated in the statement from the Camosun College Student Society below.
