{"id":9300,"date":"2014-08-11T09:10:17","date_gmt":"2014-08-11T16:10:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/?p=9300"},"modified":"2014-08-11T09:11:51","modified_gmt":"2014-08-11T16:11:51","slug":"9300","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/2014\/08\/11\/9300\/","title":{"rendered":"Camfest returns bigger than ever this September"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With all of the gorgeous weather this summer, a beach-themed Camfest seems like the best option, and that\u2019s exactly what the Camosun College Student Society (CCSS) is planning for their annual welcome-back festival at the college during September.<\/p>\n<p>Taking place September 2 at Lansdowne and September 4 at Interurban, with a beach-party-themed beverage tent at Lansdowne on September 12 and a barnyard\/harvest-themed beverage tent at Interurban on September 25, the summer-style Camfest promises to be bigger and better than recent years, featuring activities, games, live music and performances, and tasty food. Oh, and fire dancers. Did we mention fire dancers?<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9301\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9301\" style=\"width: 420px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/7972493944_2d4c0eee79_o.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-9301 \" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/7972493944_2d4c0eee79_o.jpg\" width=\"420\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/7972493944_2d4c0eee79_o.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/7972493944_2d4c0eee79_o-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/7972493944_2d4c0eee79_o-180x119.jpg 180w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9301\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Someone getting the ride of their life during a previous, particularly wild, CamFest (photo by Camosun College A\/V Services).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThis year we\u2019re stepping it up a notch,\u201d says Interurban executive Andrea Eggenberger, one of the CCSS reps responsible for the planning of the event. \u201cThink fire-dancers, live bands, and large-scale puppets!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The annual event, besides being a fun beginning-of-year celebration for new and returning students, is also an integral part of raising awareness about the CCSS and the services it provides to students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an excellent opportunity to meet and connect with other students and learn about what resources are available to them to help them in their educational process,\u201d says CCSS external executive Rachael Grant.<\/p>\n<p>But who has time for education when there\u2019s so much fun to be had? This year\u2019s planning team spent a lot of time going for the festival vibe, so the first couple of weeks back at school should be a blast, if everything goes according to plan.<\/p>\n<p>And although most of the live performers haven\u2019t been confirmed yet, Grant promises that the CCSS has \u201csome pretty exciting people lined up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s looking to be bigger than last year,\u201d she says. \u201cWe\u2019re always striving to make it bigger and more festival-like. We have some really fun activities for the beach-themed beverage garden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Camfest is also a chance for the CCSS team to get used to working together, something that they will do over the course of the school year, not only on events but also important campaigns for students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlanning Camfest has pulled our new CCSS team closer together,\u201d says Eggenberger, \u201cand that\u2019s just the feeling that we want Camfest to embody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite planning taking place over the summer months, when many of the CCSS board members are away on holidays, Grant says planning the event has been a positive experience for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been really fun planning this event,\u201d she says. \u201cWe have a lot of new faces on the CCSS board right now, and it\u2019s been really great working with them because they are really keen and excited to seek out new ways of having a really fun and exciting Camfest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Check out the CCSS website at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.camosunstudent.org\" target=\"_blank\">camosunstudent.org<\/a> for more information on what\u2019s going on at this year\u2019s Camfest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With all of the gorgeous weather this summer, a beach-themed Camfest seems like the best option, and that\u2019s exactly what the Camosun College Student Society (CCSS) is planning for their annual welcome-back festival at the college during September.
