Born in the Mile High City of Denver, Colorado, The Lumineers are bringing an upbeat folk-rock sound to the scene. While the genre might be a bit overdone right now, The Lumineers are able to put their own twist on it and deliver an original-sounding, self-titled debut album.

One thing that sets these guys apart is that they tend to rest more on the rock side of the folk-rock sounds that they are producing, keeping the listener intrigued from start to finish. The Lumineers also pick up some interesting topics in their songs. One song particularly worth a listen is “Classy Girls,” which reminds the listener that “classy girls don’t kiss in bars.”

Another interesting aspect of the album is that every song tells a little story. Whether it’s the traditionally folk cuts like “Charlie Boy” and “Dead Sea” or songs that showcase the band’s pop side, such as “Submarines” and “Big Parade,” you’ll be hooked and thoroughly absorbed from start to finish. Those who like bands like Bright Eyes, Fleet Foxes, or The Rural Alberta Advantage will be into the sounds that The Lumineers offer.
