Such Perfect Lives is a beautifully put together indie-folk album from Toronto-based Jane Mathew. The album—Mathew’s debut—mixes her hypnotic vocals with soft guitar and ukulele, and her songwriting makes you feel like you’re escaping to another world.

Mathew writes all of her own music; each song is its own piece that speaks on very grounded issues that everyone has struggled with at some point. Themes of belonging, anxiety, and not measuring up emerge constantly through the album.

While songs such as “No One” and “Treasures” have a very upbeat feel to them, almost like the start of a journey, other songs are a lot slower and sedative. This can be soothing, but it can also get repetitive very quickly.

If you enjoy soft-spoken music with deep meanings or are looking for new music for studying, I highly recommend Such Perfect Lives.
