Provincial government freezes tuition: 25 years ago, the NDP government decided to freeze post-secondary tuition in British Columbia, as a story in our September 15, 1997 issue detailed. The premier at the time, Glen Clark, said it was his top priority to put the issue of student debt on the federal agenda. Where’s this priority in our government today?

New totem pole at Lansdowne: On Thursday, September 4, 1997, a totem pole designed and carved by artist Art Thompson was placed in front of the Wilna Thomas Cultural Centre at Lansdowne to provide a sense of familiarity for Indigenous students, and it’s nice to see that it’s still standing there today. Make sure to take a look next time you walk by Wilna Thomas.

A lot of happenin’ shit: The back page of this issue was our events calendar, not-so-subtly called Happenin’ Shit. There were 27 events and activities, such as a Welcome Back Pub Night and movie nights, listed in this issue. While the activities are a bit different than they used to be, here’s a reminder to enjoy all the happening shit going on around campus today; check out the Camosun College Student Society’s new Camosun Campus Life Guide, available around campus, for a starter (see page 4 of this issue). And let us know if we should bring back our events calendar!
