CCSS board member fears for life: According to a story in our September 29, 1997 issue, Camosun College Student Society (CCSS) Interurban executive Derek Madson let his political views impact his decisions in the CCSS, causing a conflict within the organization. Madson received lots of backlash due to this and even reached out to the police out of fear for his life. Other CCSS members in this article discuss how important it is to not be affiliated with any political party since CCSS decisions are made to prioritize students.

NASA launches deadly probe: On October 6, 1997, NASA launched a probe from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station with 72.3 tons of plutonium on board. Big yikes. Despite protests against this launch, NASA went ahead with it and risked endangering the planet.
